Going St. Footbridge Coalition
The Vision
UPDATES: We are moving forward with our permits at PBOT and have pivoted to use the design with the octopus statue. The far reaching tentacles should help eliminate as much flat space as possible with Oregon grape plants filling in most the extra space under the covered portion. The mural permit is still pending as well. I’m hoping to get an update next week on our progress.
Going St. Footbridge Coalition Needs You
Who are we?: The GFC is a group of neighbors that have dedicated ourselves to revamping and bringing back to life the south side of the Going Footbridge or also known as Simon Stanich Park.
What the heck is going on there?: If you have walked, skipped or rode your bike over the Going street footbridge since this summer you will have noticed a few changes to the bridge. PBOT, who owns this side of the bridge, has installed a fence and they recently hired security guards to patrol the bridge before and after school for the elementary school kids that walk across the bridge daily.
Why do I care?: This space has become a hub for drug users and campers. There are hundreds of logged reports to 311 and 911 regarding illegal activity under and around the south side off the bridge. This bridge sees anywhere between 100 and 1000 people daily connecting Beach Elementary, Ockley Green Middle School and local businesses and is a designated bike access bridge that connects Concord bike street. This is a community issue that needs our help.
How can I get involved?:
1. We are currently raising money for the mural project and trying to reach our goal of $5000. We have selected a professional mural artist and are working towards getting final approval from PBOT with the hope of the community helping paint the mural in March of next year.
2. Are you interested in helping look for available grants or art funding for the mural project and our next venture, which is revamping the space under the bridge, please contact Grant at grant@masseypdx.com
3. Do you want to be included on updates and be on our email list? Do you want to help fundraise? Do you want to paint the mural in March? Do you have ideas or want to be involved? Please email Grant at grant@masseypdx.com
